Lagerfeld’s Final Chanel Show

Despite their tristesse, Paris Fashion Week models reveal faces of cool confidence. The women are clothed in a sea of black and white, plaid and houndstooth. They are hatted and belted in Chanel accessories and borrowed pearls. A woman dressed in a fur-lined black coat uses the brim of her hat as a shield from the public eye. With tears in their eyes and makeup-covered faces, the models hold their shoulders high and walk out of the show in a pack. Their eyes gaze downward, to the side, or past the camera. The faces in the back start to blend together and fade away, so that we cannot see who is crying or who is wearing what, though we know they are all dressed their best for the camera. We cannot see into their eyes.
